Twenty five renaissance craftsman laboured years to perfect the quintessential Canadian retreat of our time.
THE FOUNDER’S LODGE AT FAWN BLUFF
Fawn Bluff represents the culmination of an ambitious dream to imagine, design and create the consummate resort-style retreat hidden away in the remote sport fishing capital of Canada. Over 7,000 square feet of integrated indoor (4,000) and outdoor (3,000) space, connects seamlessly with it’s natural setting at elevation as if born of it — carved intuitively from living stone and vast timbers. The unadorned solid stone reception wall, flagstone walkways, covered wrap-around decks, and outdoor recreation areas comprise the bedrock of a self-contained, state-of-the-art, post and beam architectural feat that both delights and defines remote and refined coastal living. Rustic elegance, custom forged iron hardware and fixtures, organic surfaces, natural finishes, angling-themed accents, vintage reclamations, and historic references are married with ingenious mechanics, custom-crafted contemporary comfort, and inconspicuous modern conveniences. The pairings are perfect, extraordinary.Rustic Elegance, Modern Convenience
- Classic Post and beam timber frame construction with metal roof
- Front of the house is solid living stone
- Exceptionally maintained 2 level home with large sleeping loft
- Over 4,000 sq. ft. of living space
- Master bedroom with loft and full ensuite on main floor and 2 bedrooms with ensuite baths on the lower level
- 2 guest half baths
- Manicured and beautifully landscaped front and back yard
- Ocean, mountain and glacier views
- Front of lodge is solid living stone hand picked from Valemount in Revelstoke. The stones are covered with living Lichen that is over 100 years old
- The construction of the Founder’s lodge took 3 years utilizing a staff of 25 people
- Smooth beautifully laid flagstone frames the exterior of the house, winding organically through the terraced gardens
- Did not over clear timber when building structures on property, inspected trees to use for timber on-site, mainly cedar and Douglas fir
- Decking is cedar, sourced from cleared timber on-site
- Dining table is Douglas fir
- All benches and picnic tables made from cleared trees on property
- All reclaimed barn boards used for ceilings and floors of main Lodge and Lake Cottage sourced from old cannery in the Great Bear Rain Forest. Circular burn marks in the wide planks are from old joist rings and saw blade markings, add a real rustic feel to the floors and ceilings. Planks were split lengthwise during milling to maximize the amount of markings that would be visible
- All exterior and interior posts and beams sourced from Alberta, all standing dead trees. All transported and crafted in Montana
- Posts and beams do not expand or contract due to the fact that they were not farmed “green” but instead were already dead forest
- Granite counter tops in kitchen sourced from “Island Stone” office in Duncan B.C.
- Central foyer opens to expansive open concept main floor with soaring vaulted ceilings. All walls save for the front wall are solid wood. The joinery is all exposed with king posts, webs and finials. Joined by iron brackets.
- Each room has solid wood french doors that open up onto the covered balcony that runs the length of the house
- Built in sound system throughout, interior and exterior
- Stately entertaining kitchen with custom millwork done by Rick Bowerman from Squamish
- Oversized island with breakfast bar seating for 4
- Oversized rustic style oval wrought iron chandelier hangs over the island bringing warmth and ambience to the expansive kitchen
- Integrated Sub Zero fridge and freezer
- 4 burner Viking oven with built in hood fan
- Custom built U-shaped bar with solid wood cabinets with integrated Sub-Zero fridge and freezer
- Beside the bar is a rustic wine rack made from tree branches
- Stone fireplace with soaring chimney in the living room has same living stone utilized on front wall of house
- Custom iron fireplace grate is reminiscent of the wild outdoors
- Chandelier hanging over the dining table is also rustic in style, tying into the light fixtures used throughout the main floor
- To the left of the kitchen is a Four Seasons room with another stone fireplace and a breathtaking view of the bay and inlet
- To the right of the foyer, past the mudroom is a master suite with a view, conveniently located closest to the pathway to the outdoor hot tub area
- 2 person loft accessed from the master suite, with views of the bay and inlet
- Master has a 5 piece ensuite bath with claw foot tub
- Mudroom to the right of the foyer, doubles as a fishing tackle room
- Stairs just inside the front door leading to lower level are of the same wood plank construction as the floors throughout the main living area.
- Wood railing heading down the stairs was carved from tree branches found on the property, winding around corners as you descend
