Witness the feast of grizzly bears during the salmon run and discover the culture of the Homalco First Nation. The rainforest and the Salish Sea are full of surprises.

Activities

Fawn Bluff was designed for those who seek to live in rhythm with nature. The ocean, the lake, and the forest each offer their own invitations, with always available guides and staff to ensure guest ease and safety. All technical equipment is provided on site.

On the Grounds

  • Immerse yourself in nature’s symphony along forest trails or join the Chef on a guided foraging hike
  • Wander the boardwalks tracing the rugged Pacific shoreline
  • Spend a lazy afternoon relaxing or drifting on Leask Lake, with canoes and paddleboards at your disposal
  • Escape for a romantic night at the secluded Lake Cabin
  • Awe beneath nature’s own spectacle: the Pacific northern lights
  • Hiking the 2.5 mile trails of the private lodge
  • Local products cooking session with the Chef
  • Fishing off the dock, facing Estero peak
  • Archery with our guided team

At Sea

Encounters on the water are shaped by the rhythms of tide and season. The captain guides guests to salmon fishing, prawn and crab traps, or quiet coves where a picnic can be shared in rare solitude. Beyond the inlet, the waters open to the Salish Sea and Desolation Sound—alive with whales, dolphins, seals, sea lions, and wheeling eagles above.

As spontaneity is part of the natural beauty, all equipment is ready for you to meet every moment:

  • Board boats and paddle boards, with all the gear—ready for shifting tides and clear skies.
  • Set crab and prawn traps, then savor the ocean’s harvest.
  • Fish for salmon with our captain, or venture out on your own (license required; our team can assist).
  • Explore hidden coves for shoreline picnics.
  • Voyage into the Salish Sea and Desolation Sound.
  • Encounter humpback and orca whales, dolphins, seals, and sea lions.

Helicopter Adventures

(Optional)

Rise above the Bute Inlet and trace the wild geometry of the Coast Mountains. Step onto the peaks of ancient glaciers, hike through remote mountain terrain, paddle on hidden alpine lakes, or fish clear rivers where snowmelt runs purer than pure. Each flight is privately arranged and guided by local experts who read the land—alive in each moment.

Peek into an untouched realm few have ever reached, if ever before:

  • Walk upon ancient ice, floating high above sea level.
  • Hike through untouched alpine wilderness—where no one may have stepped before.
  • Paddle or canoe across mirror-still glacier lakes, breathing in their magnificent blue hue.
  • Cast hooks into pristine mountain rivers and honor the catch over dinner.

Grizzly Encounters with Homalco First Nation

From August to October, the salmon run up the Orford River, drawing grizzlies from the mountains to feed before hibernation. In these streams, salmon complete their life cycle. This timeless exchange between forest, river, and sea gives the bears the strength to endure winter.

The Homalco First Nation—χʷɛmaɬkʷu, the “people of the fast-running waters”—have been stewards of these lands and waters since time immemorial. We have the rare privilege of privately visiting Orford Bay.

West Coast Cuisine

West Coast cuisine is committed to organic, local, and responsibly sourced ingredients. We are food-passionate and love to cook as much as we can with ingredients from our own fishing, forest forages, and on-site greenhouse growth.

Guests are always welcome to join an early morning fishing session or a foraging hike with our Chef. From family-style service around a firepit to fresh sashimi on the boat, Fawn Bluff cuisine is all about sharing.

The selection of local wines and cocktails are all-inclusive.
